Financial situation of Tamil Nadu

       On July 2011 Tamil Nadu sought a special assistance package of Rs 1 lakh crore for fiscal consolidation and reduction of the debt level of the State. In Dec 2011 Tamil Nadu Chief Minister urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to sanction an additional financial assistance of Rs 25,000 crore for development projects for Tamil Nadu partly as grant and partly as loan.
      The state government has been taking requisite steps such as increase of VAT rates, State excise duty, bus fares, increase of milk prices, etc

Power crisis in Tamil Nadu

Central generating stations to Tamil Nadu has come down by 700 MW since last March. Tamil Nadu requested Central government for an additional allocation of 1,000 MW from the Central pool due to the unexpected delay in commissioning of the new power projects under the Central sector to tide over the present acute power crisis

Third Cabinet reshuffle

          Tamil Nadu Paranjothi resigned from the Cabinet citing personal reasons. The police has filed an FIR against him in a cheating case. He held the portfolio of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, Law, Courts and Prisons. Social Welfare minister Selvi Ramajayam was dropped from the cabinet during this reshuffle.
         B Valarmathi was given the charge of Social welfare portfolio. M S M Anandan will handle the portfolio of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments. School Education Minister C Ve Shanmugam has been given additional charge of Tamil Official Language & Tamil Culture, Law, Courts, Prisons, Personnel & Administrative Reforms and Prevention of Corruption.
        This is the third cabinet reshuffle after this government assumed office in May 2011. It is a good precedent that the tainted ministers are dropped from cabinet till they are proven by courts as innocent.

DAM999

        Dam 999 is an english movie produced by BizTV Network and directed by Sohan Roy. It is based on a real life incident that took place in 1975 in China that reportedly killed over 2 lakh people. The film is an emotional thriller and showcases nine human emotions.
Ban in Tamil Nadu
       Tamil Nadu Government banned the screening of the film on the ground that it can disturb the cordial ties between Tamil Nadu and Kerela. Tamil Nadu government felt that it refers to the Mullaperiyar dispute and can create panic among people over the collapse of the dam and divide the people of two states.
SC verdict on TN ban
       Following the ban, director Sohan Roy move the Supreme Court challenging the ban on screening his film in Tamil Nadu. He stated in the writ petition that state banned the screening without hearing him or affording him an opportunity for clarification and violated his fundamental right to freedom under Article 19 (1)(a). Supreme court asked Tamil Nadu to hear objections of Sohan Roy and pass appropriate order
